This is because although he was Chinese, he had stayed for long in America and therefore, he truism himself being a noble and loyal American citizen. They insisted that they were still loyal to the United States of America since they similarly were Americans by right (Ford 184). This act brings out loyalty as a sign of obedience an air of honor for the country and an ideal act of pure love.
